A’Ibom APC Interim Committee Inaugurated
As Ime Mbom-led SWC vows to wrestle power from PDP in 2023
The new Interim State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Engr. Ime Mbom was inaugurated today to pilot the affairs of the party in the state.
The event witnessed by stakeholders of the party drawn from the 31 local government areas of the state took place in Uyo, the state capital.
Recall that the Akwa Ibom APC Alliance (AAA), a foremost socio-political group affiliated to the APC had on Wednesday 2nd February 2022 selected Engr Mbom, a former member of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as the interim state chairman of the party.
Spokesperson of AAA, Captain Effiong Eyo, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Uyo where the new interim chairman was unveiled, cited the acrimony and rancor caused by the fractionalization of the party in the state as the reason for setting up the interim committee to unite the party ahead of the 2023 polls.
Part of a statement read by Captain Eyo read: “After wide consultations and discussions with members of our party, APC support groups and others for the way forward, we have all agreed that the APC in Akwa Ibom State should be administered by an interim committee devoid of any member of the four APC factions in the state. This will give us strength, love, unity, peace progress and the needed strength to go for victory in the 2023 elections.”
Also, Engr. Larry Esin, who was the gubernatorial standard bearer of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011, was unanimously chosen as the leader of AAA in the state at the stakeholders’ meeting.
The interim committee, the group noted, is neutral, and was put in place following the leadership crisis rocking the party in the state, where there are divergent interests and leadership.
Meanwhile, speaking after the inauguration, the new interim Chairman, Engr. Mbom thanked the members of the party for the confidence reposed in him while pledging to respect the provisions of the party’s constitution.
Mbong promised to unite all the factions existing in the APC and ensure the new interim executives work tirelessly to ensure the party takes over the governorship seat in the state in 2023.
Addressing the newly inaugurated interim executives of the Akwa Ibom APC, Mr. Eteyen Okwong, Special Assistant to the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, charged them to excuse all forms of bitterness and sink their differences to foster unity in the party.
He stated: “The mission of this team is to unite the APC family so that in 2023 we can produce an APC governor in the interest of this state, so that we can move further to replace the misadventure we are currently witnessing. So much is happening currently in terms of bad governance and APC has to reposition.”
